Google, at the Made by Google event on October 15, announces some of its latest products including the highly anticipated Pixel 4 devices and some of its integrations. Here’s everything you need to know:
Pixel 4 devices
The new Pixel phone arrives in two variants, as usual: Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL – which the latter has the higher specs and the most expensive device.
Both phones run on Android 10 and comes with tons of amazing features, most importantly the camera. Here are the honorable mentions:
- Pixel Launcher now has a shortcut to pull down the notification shade
- New Pixel Themes app
- New Recorder app
- A+ rating display and got the Best Smartphone Display Award
- Motion Sense
- Live HDR+ with dual exposure controls
- Astrophotography (capture the twinkling night sky)
- Wider-range portrait mode
- Learning-based white balance
The Google Pixel 4 devices are now available for purchase with price starting at $799. You can choose from Just Black, Clearly White, and a limited edition Oh So Orange colors.
New Google Assistant
Along with the Pixel 4 arrives the revamped Google Assistant. The new assistant allows for easy voice multitasking on the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL. During the demonstration, Google showed that the assistant can pull up concert dates, share them in a message, and transcribe a note to go along with it.
The look and privacy settings were also upgraded. Users can now ask Google Assistant to delete the data of all recorded actions they carried out using Google services after a designated amount of time.
The new Google Assistant is not only limited to Pixel phones. It is expected to roll out on smartphones from other brands too.
The Pixel Buds 2
Just when you think ear buds can’t get any better. The Pixel Buds 2 does not only allow you to listen to music, it is packed with a number of functionalities such as provide navigation directions, send text messages, and translate other languages. Combine this with the new Google Assistant and we can only imagine the many possibilities it can do.
Google did not fully elaborate with the device can really do. But, a list of functionalities is expected to leak soon.
Nest Wi-Fi Points
Google also announced the new Nest Wi-Fi routers and Wi-Fi Points at the event. These devices can increase Wi-Fi coverage throughout a house or building. Paired with the revamped Google Assistant, this smart speaker can do more than a normal speaker can.
One cool functionality is you can manage the Nest Wi-Fi router using voice commands. This means you can pause the Wi-Fi connection in a particular room or on a device using only your voice. This feature is designed so users can’t hide it and use it for illegal purposes, and of course, prevent children from spending too much time online.
Google has really done it again. With the launch of the new Pixel devices and all these amazing technologies a smart device can have, we almost forget that iPhone 11 exists. These new products provide a layer of functionality that the competition can’t provide.
