Top 5 Android Apps of the Week – May 2013

This week saw the release of a number of creative and entertaining apps on the Google Play Store. Here are our picks for apps of the week:

5) Marvel Unlimited

If you’re a fan of superheroes and the Marvel universe, this is a must-have app. Marvel Unlimited delivers Marvel comics straight to your Android at a cost of $9.99 per month. The app is available around the world and the initial download is free.

4) Snoop Lion’s Snoopify

If this was a list of the stupidest apps of the week, then Snoop Lion’s Snoopify would be at the top of the list. I decided to include it on this list for the sheer novelty. With Snoopify, you take pictures from your Android gallery – or take a new picture with the camera – and add a bunch of Snoop Dogg – err Lion – related stickers to it. I’m thinking the target audience for this one is middle school kids who think they can rap or be in a gang. To make Snoopify even stupider, not all the stickers you add to the photo are free – some sticker packages cost real money – and wannabe gangsters who live in their parents’ basement may not have a lot of money to spend.

3) Blitz Brigade

Blitz Brigade is one of the more colorful and action-packed apps of the week. It’s an intense multiplayer shooter that involves up to 12 players duking it out between 5 battlefield classes, including: soldier, gunner, medic, sniper, and stealth. There are two different game modes, including Domination and Deathmatch. And with 100 unique weapons and vehicles, there are lots of ways to kill your opponents. Blitz Brigade already has several thousand downloads soon after release and it has potential to be the next big thing in the mobile gaming world.

2) Bang With Friends

If Snoopify was the stupidest app of the week, then Bang With Friends is the app that’s so crazy it just might work. As the name of this app suggests, it’s definitely not for your kids. After downloading the Bang With Friends app, you sign in with Facebook to view a list of friends. Click on a friend with whom you would like to engage in coitus, and then wait.

Your message gets sent to the Bang With Friends server. If your friend also decides that she likes the look of you and clicks on you through Bang With Friends, then your identities will be revealed to one another and you can have a fun little party. This app is only going to work if a lot of people start to use it.

My favorite part of this app is the simple interface: you can choose to either swipe up to ‘hang’ with your friend, or swipe down to ‘bang’. That’s it. This ain’t your grandpa’s app.

1) Focus @ Will

Unless you’re some kind of superhuman, I assume you’ve had trouble concentrating at some point in your life. For most people, that trouble occurs precisely when you need to get something done – like work or school. Well, if you want to improve your study habits and feel better about your willpower, check out this new app called Focus @ Will, which plays relaxing music – like classical and ambient tunes

Apparently, the app works on “2 out of 3 people” and can increase attention span by “up to 400%” – who knew you could measure attention spans in percentage points? The app is available for free for the first three weeks, after which it costs $3.99 per month or $34.99 per year.
