OnePlus 7: Here’s what we know so far

OnePlus 7 is coming up and rumors are already on the rise. What will it look like? Will it continue the trend? What will be its specifications? How much will it cost? When will it be available?

If you’re as curious as we are, here’ everything we know so far about OnePlus 7.

Name and release date

The most recent OnePlus phone is the OnePlus 6T, you’d conclude that the next phone will be obviously named OnePlus 7. However, the company has since confirmed that it’ll be showing off the “OnePlus 7 series,” specifically mentioning the OnePlus 7 Pro name too.

So, it indeed looks like there’ll be at least two phones on offer: Standard and Pro variant. As for a release date, OnePlus has announced a May 14 launch event in New York, London, and Bangalore. The Chinese launch event will take place on May 16.

Specifications and features

As with the previous phones, the OnePlus 7 is expected to be a powerhouse phone packed with powerhouse features such as Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor, 6GB of RAM, a big battery, wide display, and upgraded in-display fingerprint sensor.

The standard model is said to offer two rear cameras while the pro model has been confirmed by the company that it will feature three rear cameras. Wired publishing, who claimed to have spent time with the phone, revealed that the device has a 3x zoom rear camera. Rumors point to the main camera sensor on both OnePlus 7 devices to be a 48MP sensor made by Sony.

Sadly, we won’t be seeing wireless charging and IP rating on the OnePlus 7 as confirmed during the official forums.

Additionally, according to a OnePlus spokesperson, the company’s 5G phone will kick off a new line of smartphones that will be separate from the OnePlus 7. More specifically, co-founder and CEO Pete Lau told The Verge that the OnePlus 7 Pro will offer 5G connectivity. However, it is unclear as of now if there will be a Pro version with 5G and an additional version without, or if the only Pro variant you can get will be the 5G model.

A leak from April posts revealed that the OnePlus 7 Pro features a Quad HD+ display with a 90Hz refresh rate, which was later confirmed. DisplayMate then bestowed an A+ rating on the OnePlus 7 Pro screen making the device “one of the best” smartphone screens in the market.

Design

The OnePlus 7 Pro model is coming with leaks that have a pop-up selfie camera – the company’s solution toward building a nearly bezel-free and notch-free display instead of a slider mechanism. However, the standard version may not have the same pop-up feature but will have a waterdrop-style notch.

The OnePlus 7 Pro was also spotted in Olixar’s case renders, which show off a OnePlus phone with a pop-up selfie camera. The case renders also show off three rear cameras, confirming Wired’s report, and the retention of OnePlus’ signature alert slider on the right.

Three color options were also leaked: Almond, Nebula Blue, and Mirror Gray.

That’s everything we know so far about the upcoming OnePlus 7. We’ll see more on the May 14 launch.
