Do the iPhone 6 and Flagship Androids Pass the Infamous “Bend Test”?

One week ago, Unbox Therapy was a relatively unknown YouTube channel.

This week, Unbox Therapy is making headlines around the world for his infamous “bend tests” which have been torturing all different types of iPhones and Android smartphones.

It all started with his iPhone 6 Plus bend test – in which it was revealed that the iPhone 6 Plus was already bent after just two days of carrying it around in his pocket.

Then, he moved onto a Galaxy Note 3 bend test. The Note 3 fared amazingly well in that test, refusing to give way even long after Lou’s thumbs went purple.

And now, Simon and his YouTube channel are capitalizing on the bend test fame by testing more flagship phones. In his latest video, Lou tests the iPhone 6, the HTC One M8, the Moto X, and other flagship phones.

Here are the results:

iPhone 6

The iPhone 6 survives the bend test much better than the iPhone 6 Plus (well, it was difficult to do worse). The iPhone 6 creaked and cracked and the glue was audibly coming loose. By the end of the test, the iPhone 6 displayed a small bend and there was a quiet snapping/popping sound, but there was very minimal visible damage.

HTC One M8

The HTC One M8 is one of the most popular phones of the year. Android users love the Sense UI and the top-notch specs. On the HTC One M8’s bend test, the screen popped out a little bit and it creaked and cracked slightly, but there was no visible or lasting damage. The glass lifted briefly before automatically returning to the frame.

Moto X

The Moto X is another popular Android smartphone. It’s sizable compared to most modern smartphones. “That, baby, is solid” was Lou’s response to the Moto X’s bend test. There were no noises, no creaks, and no cracks. The Moto X was the only phone to show no signs or sounds during the bend test.

Nokia Lumia 1020

The Nokia Lumia 1020 is best known for its camera and unique case design. Nokia, however, has always been known for its incredible durability. The Lumia 1020 creaks right away and the screen slightly lifts away, but it fits right back in with no damage after the test is complete.

iPhone 5S

The iPhone 5S is a solid piece of phone and it did not creak or crack when Lou applied force.

So really, the iPhone 6 Plus is the only major smartphone that actually bends when you apply force to its frame. The rest of the major flagships appear to be quite solid, and even the iPhone 6 didn’t bend after applying significant pressure.

Hopefully, this is the last time we have to talk about bend tests.
